Clingman Peak – 10 years ago.

10 years ago, 21th of January was one of my best days ever. After about 77 days on the ice I finally saw the first mountain on the other side of Antarctica. 75 kilometers away I could see the contour of a mountain.

A fantastic feeling. The mountains finally. Clingman Peak on my right side.

For several days I have imagine that I have been seing mountains, but it has been clouds or big hopes and fantacyNow, it was not an illusion, but a real mountain. The feeling can not be describe! The immediate feeling of kind of a big relief, incredible happiness,  joyfulness, thankfulness, kind of sadness. Screaming of joy, smiling and crying. What I could see in the long distance was, Clingman Peak.

Clingman peak, seen from Priestley Gl. Looks so small, but a big one.

During the next hours more and more mountains, massif and glaciers appeared. Fantastic view and a bit scary. Happy and lucky to know that it was just approximately 200 kilometers left to the final goal. Terra Nova Bay. And luckily I did not have any clue about what was in front of me!!

On the way down Priestley Glacier.
