Greenland Expedition 2018

Finally going back to old areas of explorations. In August, David Hempelman-Adams and I,  pluss four very good friends embarked the sailing yacht “North About” in Nuuk  – Greenland. Ambition was to reach the plateau on the most Southern Inland ice.  22 years ago, Torry and I, where hauling our sleds South and North on…

Summer 18

It has been a special summer in Norway, with lots of weather records. Mostly high temperatures. Have enjoyed it, but it has almost been too warm in the mountains. So activity has been from Middel Norway to Northern Norway. B

North Pole 2018

The North Pole season is going to its end. I had the pleasure to show the way “The Last Degree” for five British friends. It was a very good year for us to walk the last 111 km to the North Pole. Good ice conditions with some open water, but good weather. Temperatur varying from…

Pk. Strandtind – Ski and Fly

Pk Strandtind is situated on the largest island in Norway, Hinnøya. I had the pleasure of visiting this mountain twice this Spring. First time in perfect conditions and the next time I would have needed crampons and iceaxe to reach the summit, but both time I had a beautiful trip up and wonderful flight down…

Stetinden and Tysfjord experience

Finally I manage to do a kind of a flight up in Stetinden. Been there several times during the winter without luck with the weather. The plan was to Ally canoe into the starting point in Tysfjord, to manage to ascend Presttind south of Stetind and fly from there into Stetind and climb to the…

Good fun in Trollheimen

Finally I got some few days at home in Surnadal. That gave the opportunity to visit the winter mountains in Trollheimen.Got some good training which was one of the main reason to go there. Mt Snøfjellet was the main goal, but the weather window became too short.  Luckily I could chose from top level of…

First down Priestley Glacier

Ten years ago i finished the descending of the Priestley Glacier as the first one, hopefully the last one 🙂 It became worst than a nightmare for me. I was prepared for very strong wind or hurricane, on my way down. That became not the biggest challenge. Crevasses bigger than houses and snow bridges became…

Clingman Peak – 10 years ago.

10 years ago, 21th of January was one of my best days ever. After about 77 days on the ice I finally saw the first mountain on the other side of Antarctica. 75 kilometers away I could see the contour of a mountain. For several days I have imagine that I have been seing mountains,…

South Pole memorial trip

It was time to team up with David Hempleman-Adams on a new trip to the South Pole. David had organized a Shackleton memorial expedition celebrating the Centenary of Ernest Shackleton’s Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, and I was helping out with practical things during the journey. On the other hand, but not so important, it was 10 years…

NEW – Gallery

Have been thinking of a gallery on the webpage for some time. Or more than what it is space for in the margin. There is so many picture appearing when looking into 20 years photo archive which even I have not seen. So the plan is to show some of them in the Gallery menu…

Innerdalen experience

Innerdalen is known for its beauty, and by many also called the most beautiful valley in Norway. Well known for trekkers and climbers for 100 years. Some of the first climbing courses in Norway was held there. Innerdalen has been in my neighborhood since I was a child, but wonder why I have not been…

On old paths and mountains

The ambition for the day was Innerdalen, and to ascend Skarfjellet. By “faith” the local ferry had a breakdown that morning, and I had to change plan quickly. Looking for a immediate new goal on the right side of the fjord, Grinaren mountain in Todalen was chosen. 10 years since I had been up there,…

Re-union in Hell, with John.

Had the pleasure of getting visit from an good expedition colleague, John Huston, for some days in Hell. Four years since last time. Good old 10 years memories from Amundsen and Scott race were discussed. Todays expeditions talked about, and future expedition possibilities were debated and looked at. Time will show. Except from eating as…

Summer memories

The summer became quite active with five weeks in Northern Norway. Everything from canoeing, Speedflying, bathing, climbing, mountains, skydiving and meeting lots of good friends and fellows. We had a plan to “explore” more of the Helgeland coastline and take it from there. We had some dream days on Dønna Island with canoing, hiking, photographing…

Ally canoe on expeditions

In 1998 I had my first experiences with the Ally canoe on the Rio Merevari expedition in Venezuela. Since then the Ally has given me life support and supply on more than 2200 km through rough water and terrain. In fact the canoe has been the only way to get back to civilization on four…
